Edward studied the pipes under Pipe-Major Joe Fagan with the Royal British Legion Pipes and Drums later to become the Ramsay Caledonian, a successful competition band.

After arriving in  France in 1999, Edward continued his connection with the Royal British Legion by piping for the South-West France Branch in Bordeaux in addition to providing music for weddings and ex-pat events in the region. He had the honour of piping for the last surviving member of the 'Cockleshell Heroes', the late Bill Sparkes in 2001.

In 2003, Edward and his wife moved to Burgundy aboard their barge, Albertine, and then to Franche-Comté in 2005. In summer 2010 following a US tour they decided to move to the coast and now Edward is now based near Frehel, Cotes d'Armor in Brittany.
